General-

Houston is named after Sam Houston, The popular General of the Texas Army that won independence from Mexico, and also the former president of the former Republic of Texas.

Houston has experienced phenomenal growth since a small riverboat landing was established on the Buffalo Bayou by the Allen Brothers in August of  1836.

Today this metropolis is an industrial and financial hub for much of the entire state. It is one of the nations largest seaports, and head quarters of Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center. Houston lies on Hwy. I-10, a segment of the ports to the Plains Highway connecting the state's heartland to coastal ports.

Civic Center-

The center piece is Tranquillity Park, bounded by Smith, Rusk, Bagby and Walker streets. It commemorates Apollo flights with two-block-long, 32 level fountains and towers that resemble rockets.

Japanese Garden-

Designed by Ken Nakajima, the World renowned Japanese landscape architect who designed the famous gardens in Moscow, Montreal, and Rome. Located inside Hermann park. There is an admission fee.

Museum of Fine Arts-

The city's finest collection of art, objects, paintings, and sculpture! among some of the displays are pieces from Egypt, Greece, Italy , and Spain!

Port of Houston-

Among the top three seaports in the U.S. Sixth largest in the world in terms of total tonnage! The port is connected to the Gulf of Mexico by a 50 mile long ship channel.
